Your article describes the same state of mind i am going through right this moment. Infact, i am currently in the process of renaming my product, and finding names for future services I plan to provide.

My research has lead me to believe EXACTLY what you have published in this article :)

Just the confirmation I was looking for. Thanks for writing :)

Don't forget to avoid names that are easily made fun of or associates with something "funny" and unrelated. iPad comes to mind. Nothing personal to the above poster, but PELock sounds like and would likely be pronounced PEE - Lock. We often think of it like naming your child and what abuse he/she will suffer on the playground.

Hi Andy, I love your posts, it's like I was reading about my own issues about software development :)

I'm developing software copy protection system for shareware authors called "PELock", while choosing the name for my product I had a problem, because there was already a free utility called "pelockNT" (abandoned years ago) so I had doubts should I name my own software "PELock", but finally I thought - what the hell, let's do it :), domain was available, the name was short and related to the function of the software (PE stands for the PE executable file format) and after all those years I think it was a good move.

Keep on posting!
